A Succinct Explanation on the Advantage of Using Tonneau Covers

Posted on Monday, March 26, 2012 in Automotive

Sometimes, people tend to see the other side of the spectrum in terms of the things that they own.  We often fall into misconceptions about a certain product being practically useless.  It is an honest mistake that we often do not see what a certain item can do beyond its physical appearance.  A common victim of that hasty generalization would be a truck tonneau cover.  This article will show you that a tonneau cover can do a lot of things that you have not given thought of.

Admittedly, you would presume that a truck bed cover looks like any ordinary sheet that you can place atop the truck bed.  The aforementioned sentence is both right and wrong.  It is right in a sense that the truck bed cover is indeed a sheet but it is certainly wrong with its implication that placing it atop the truck bed does not do anything at all.  In fact, placing a truck bed cover brings you a lot of advantages.  Here are some of the reasons why.

The first and probably most obvious benefit one can get from a tonneau cover would be protection.  Your truck bed cover protects both your truck bed and the items that are placed on it.  Suppose you are carrying a lot of fragile memorabilia that needs to be transported in a far destination.  Travelling on the road exposes you to a lot of circumstances that may then bring damage to your things.  They could fall out the truck bed, crushed, tarnished and so on and so forth.  Without an ample protection like the tonneau cover, these instances have a high possibility of taking place.

Safety is also much ensured when you have a hard tonneau cover with you.  A part of traveling with cargo would be encountering threats for you and your items.  There have been a lot of instances wherein travelers have their things stolen, especially when placed on the truck bed.  If you use a truck bed cover, you can be assured that your things are kept intact inside the truck bed.  The composition of these covers makes it very hard to access, which adds the necessary protection that you need.

If you are the type that also pays detail into design and aesthetics, then that is something that you should not worry about the tonneau cover.  It can be customizable, allowing you to create designs that can fully complement your personality.  Somehow, a designable tonneau cover gives you a sense of identity, making you feel a little comfortable with using your accessory.

Easy Installation Guide for your Bakflip F1 Tonneau Cover

Posted on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 in Automotive

The Bakflip F1 tonneau cover is one of the best-selling tonneau covers in the market.  With its Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer surface with a UV protected finish, it gives great protection against the harshest weather conditions while at the same time offering versatility which no other folding and hard top tonneau covers provide.  One of the best things about the Bakflip F1 is that it’s so easy to install, it won’t take you an hour to finish the entire process.  You won’t even need an extra helping hand to mount and secure the tonneau cover.  Just read on to learn how.

Bakflip F1 tonneau covers come with shims, mounting rails, a preassembled tonneau cover, drain hoses and rubber stoppers.  They also come with bolts, knobs and clamps necessary to secure the rails and the tonneau cover on your truck bed.  To start with the installation process, you first need to install the rails with the provided clamps.  However, some truck beds have tapered inner rails, so you need to install the shims first to avoid tilting the mounted rails.  You need to clean the lips of the inner rails with denatured alcohol before sticking the shims.  Once the shims have been secured, you can start mounting the rails and securing them with the clamps.  Make sure that the clamps are equally spaced apart.

Once you have secured the rails of the folding tonneau cover, you can start mounting the cover.  To ensure proper fit, fold back the tonneau cover right down to the tailgate.  Make sure that the rubber seal end of your tonneau cover sits right over the edge of the tailgate.  Once it’s in place, take the flathead bolts and drop them in the holes found at the front panel of the cover.  Open the tonneau cover again by pulling the cable underneath each panel to release and fold.  Once the panels are folded up, secure the flathead bolts with the washers that came with bolts and tighten the flathead bolts with the star knob to keep the tonneau cover securely in place.

For the finishing touches, connect first the drain tubes behind or under the liner.  Place the other end of the drain tubes in the holes on the truck bed floor or against the cab.  Some of these holes have drain plugs so you need to remove them or you can drill a hole in the rubber or plastic rug on your truck bed floor.  If the hoses are too long, you can cut them up to ensure a perfect fit.  Lastly, take out the rubber stoppers and place them on the edge of the panel which touches your truck’s rear cab.  Usually, the rubber stoppers are taped underneath the front or middle panel of the folding tonneau covers.  Evenly space them apart for proper alignment.  Now your Bakflip F1 toneau cover is ready to use and it only took you less than an hour to mount and install the tonneau cover on your truck bed.

Shopping useful truck accessories

Posted on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 in Automotive

Getting your bare bones truck means you still have a lot of work to do. That means you’re in for a world full of truck accessories that are either useful or just to make your truck look flashy. I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing to invest in style but it is better to prioritize utility rather than looks. With that in mind, I give you a small guide to shopping truck accessories – particularly the useful ones. The ones that I will recommend for your Dodge Ram are Dodge running boards, tonneau covers, fenders, and a selection of style.

Starting with the most useful: getting a pair of Dodge Ram running boards for your Dodge truck is never a bad idea. The usefulness of the accessory shines when you have kids or elderly on board; otherwise, it’s a convenient piece of equipment that facilitates climbing in and out of the truck.

Aside from working as a step-on, it also provides a whole lot in terms of protection. You’ll never know when your Dodge truck running boards could do you a big favor in saving you from a car accident by fending off other vehicles, preventing a side to side collision with them. This is basically why they are also called “nerf bars”.

While having truck or jeep running boards is cool, it would be even cooler if you also had a tonneau cover – these can either be soft or hard but the basic feature which is to provide better security for your cargo and protection of your truck bed against extreme weather conditions makes it worth all what you’re going to pay for. Additionally, tonneau covers can save you money in the form of gas savings – by reduction of air drag which is prevalent when driving on high speeds.

Fenders and mud flaps are useful for keeping road debris out of the air – these are basically installed behind and the area around the tires to catch flying rocks or mud brought by spinning tires. This is especially useful if you want to keep out of trouble as sometimes, road debris could fly and hit random people or possessions and you wouldn’t want that to happen.

Aside from the usual line of accessories, you always have a wide selection of other useful and stylish equipment from certain online and local stores. All it takes is to visit one, but make sure that you grab these essentials before even dare thinking of style.

Gas saving tips for your truck

Posted on Thursday, July 7, 2011 in Automotive

Gas is no longer cheap – it used to be but it’s pretty much increasing these days due to high demand and yet declining supply. With that in mind, anyone would definitely find ways into saving gas and make that liter last as long as possible. Here are a few possible tips that may be able to help you do that:

Driving the right way
A couple of tips on this category: First is about choosing the right transmission – automatic transmission will almost always eat up more gas than manual since auto shifting is not as smart as the drivers. Pick manual whenever possible and you’ll notice your gas will last longer than usual – way longer than how it used to. Second tip is about braking – practicing braking at the right moment will often save you a lot of gas. This is pretty handy mostly on heavy traffic when drivers accelerate and brake too often. Hitting the brake too soon too often eats up gas and you’ll have to pay up about 20 percent more gas than usual.

Reduce weight
Did you ever notice that heavy piece of equipment on your compartment has been lying in there for some time? Maybe it’s time to put it down somewhere else as having more mass on your truck makes it eat more gasoline. Reduce weight by removing unnecessary things from your vehicle and this will work wonders on your mileage.

Pick the best routes
Avoid traffic if you can – sometimes it’s better to pick routes that are longer but are less congested. It’s not too fuel friendly if you’re in a short route which requires you to stop every few seconds.

Improving aerodynamics
So you thought that turning off your A/C and opening your windows will save you gas? Think again –depending on your speed, turbulence and air drag will pull you back, demand more gas and eventually eat up on your mileage. This also applies to your uncovered tailgate – in which you’d either have to open it or get a tonneau cover.

A tonneau cover is a handy piece of equipment that covers your truck bed, improving aerodynamics, adding security and protection. They are usually custom made to fit your truck dimensions so if you’re to order one, gather information on your truck’s make and model. You’ll find that several types of covers such as the tri fold tonneau cover are available in stores and specific brand models like a Ford tonneau cover are easy to find as well. Make it an initiative to replace parts of your truck’s engine as well such as air filters and spark plugs as these are parts that may directly affect the fuel efficiency of your vehicle.
